Apple Pie is a classic dessert loved for its buttery crust and sweet apple filling. This recipe combines tart apples with sugar, cinnamon, and a touch of lemon juice to create a delicious and comforting pie. The crust is made from a combination of flour, butter, salt, and water, resulting in a flaky and golden-brown pastry. Serve the apple pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat that is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Servings
- 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 cup Butter ((2 sticks), cold and cubed)
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 0.25 cup Ice water
- 6 cups Apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
- 1 Egg (beaten (for egg wash))
- Vanilla ice cream (For serving)
Directions
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2. Gradually add the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough comes together.
3. Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into a disk. Wrap the disks in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
5. In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are coated with the sugar mixture.
6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Transfer the dough to the pie dish and trim any excess dough from the edges.
7. Pour the apple mixture into the pie dish, spreading it evenly.
8. Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the apple filling. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
9. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg to create a golden crust.
10. Make a few small slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
11. Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
12. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
13. Serve the apple pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
14. Enjoy this classic apple pie as a delicious and comforting dessert!
